The Confidence Course starts 24 March 2026…

Join Kate for a half-day coaching intensive

Not sure what to do next? Feeling stuck or doubting yourself?

When life feels unclear, it’s easy to lose confidence or second-guess yourself. You might feel like you’re spinning your wheels – doubting how well you know yourself, wondering what you really want, and unsure about how to make meaningful change.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. And you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

Join Kate for a personal half-day coaching intensive to reconnect with yourself and find your way forward

In this one-to-one session with Kate, you’ll be gently guided to:

  • understand your personal story

  • explore what matters most to you at this point in your life

  • gain clarity about your strengths and values

  • uncover the hidden beliefs or habits that have been keeping you stuck

  • create a practical, personalised plan to move you forward

You’ll leave with greater clarity and confidence and an understanding about how to move towards your dreams – one small step at a time.

Kate James offers life coaching in Melbourne.

What people say about Kate’s half-day coaching intensive

half-day-session

Location

The half-day coaching intensive is held at Kate’s peaceful home studio in Mount Martha. Many clients choose to turn the experience into a mini retreat, staying overnight at a local Airbnb and visiting the nearby Peninsula Hot Springs.

Session times

Each session runs from 9.30am to 1.00pm and includes three and a half hours of focused, in-depth work. To check availability, please get in touch. Sessions tend to fill quickly, so a short waiting period may apply.

Fee

Half-day coaching intensive – $895
(Payment can be made in full or split into two instalments.)

Before we begin

We’ll start with a short phone call to make sure we’re a good fit. Once you have booked, you’ll receive some pre-session questionnaires to complete to ensure you get the most from your session.

What’s included

During our time together, I’ll invite you to share your story with me so that we can choose the best exercises to help you move forward. These might include clarifying your core values, envisioning your ideal life, and identifying the beliefs that may be limiting you.

We’ll have three and a half hours of focused, one-on-one time dedicated entirely to you. If the weather is nice, we might take a walk through the garden to enhance your experience in this peaceful setting.

What to bring

Once you make your booking, I’ll send you some preparatory materials to complete before your session. Please set aside at least two hours to work through these. I also recommend completing a strengths assessment before the session, which carries a small additional cost of about $20 AUD.

Wear comfortable clothing and bring an open heart and a readiness to connect deeply with your true self.

After your session

It’s best to set aside a few hours alone after your session to fully absorb everything we cover, as it can be quite intensive and you may feel a little tired afterward.

If you’re travelling from interstate, please don’t hesitate to ask about nearby accommodation options.

In the days and weeks following your session, you’ll have clear, personalised action steps (which we’ll develop together during our time), and you can also choose to book individual follow-up sessions if you wish.

Book a call

Get in touch to ask a question or discuss the half-day coaching intensive and what you’re hoping to get out of the experience.

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

Frequently asked questions about personal coaching

I founded Total Balance in Melbourne in 2002 after two decades working as business manager for filmmakers, architects and designers. After studying  business with a major in marketing, I changed direction and enrolled in a PCC Level Certification with International Coach Academy. I was one of the first Australian coaches to achieve a PCC accreditation with International Coach Federation in 2005.

My journey with meditation began in the early 1990’s and I have had a daily practice for over 30 years now. I began teaching meditation in the summer of 2003 in-person and in 2015, joined the world’s leading free meditation app, Insight Timer as an instructor, which is now home to over 30 million meditators.

I have trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with Russ Harris, taken the Mindful Self-Compassion Intensive for Professionals (developed by Kristin Neff & Christopher Germer) and Internal Family Systems by Dr Richard Schwarz.

The half-day session fee is $895. This can be paid in two instalments if preferable.

We work on the same content in the half-day session as we cover in approximately four sessions of coaching. The benefit is that you get to do all of the work in one day so it’s a deeply focused experience. You can always follow up with a few single sessions if you feel you might benefit from some ongoing accountability.

Not at all. Not everyone we see is interested in mindfulness. Being mindful is really just another way of saying being present, curious, self-aware and non-judgmental. If those qualities appeal, you’ll enjoy working with Kate.

The time is designed around that is most important to you, so before your session, I’ll email you some preparatory paperwork.

Once you’re here, I’ll make you a cup of tea or coffee if you’d like one, and to begin, I’ll ask you to share your story briefly. There’s a lot of research that confirms that this is a hugely helpful way of getting to know yourself, and my experience with other clients tells me that if you’ve faced adversity in your life, it’s a pretty powerful step in the healing journey.

We’ll reflect on how your personal narrative is shaping your current and future plans and then explore what matters most from here. Together we’ll look at your values, your strengths and your five or ten-year-plan and we’ll map out some practical steps to help you move in your chosen direction.

As you’ll read in the testimonials, clients find this an empowering and meaningful experience. Many have called it ‘life-changing’.

I have a low-key style and attract clients who say they’re not usually drawn to coaching. I’m not a high motivation, ‘high fiving’  kind of coach. Having said that, most people find that seeing a coach does motivate them to create change in their lives.

We’ll set some tangible goals and action steps that will help you to achieve your vision. For many people, change takes time and I respect that you’ll want to work at your own pace.

For the most part, my role is to support you. I’ll listen and empathise, but I’ll also help you to understand what gets in your way. My aim is to create a space where you feel listened to and understood, and one where you can start to imagine, and begin to create, a life that is more fulfilling.

It’s common for people to feel nervous about life coaching (or seeking any kind of support). Some clients worry about whether their issues are normal, whether it’s ok to speak about certain things in the coaching sessions or if they’ll appear silly for raising minor worries.

Please don’t be concerned at all. I’m and open and non-judgemental person and I’m here to support you in any way that I can. If something comes up in a session that I don’t feel I can help with, I’ll  help to direct you to the right kind of  support.

I ask for 48 hours notice to change or cancel an appointment to give me time to find someone else to fill your place.
